Billboard Critics Top 10s

Plover is #6 on Steve Adams top 10 list! It’s good to know that an indie album with a $0.00 marketing budget (no publicist, no ads, no photos, no videos, no tour, no physical copies) can still find its way into the hands of someone who will not only enjoy it but help to spread the word. Thanks, Steve!

  • My favorite song is “So Far Away.” Between the warmth of Neilson’s husky rumble, your soaring clarity, and Garrison’s unearthly, utterly angelic “ha-na-na” part, it’s nothing short of heavenly. Best moment happens at the 2:30 mark, when you belt out “not holding on” and Garrison’s na-na’s coalesce into “to anything.” I get tears every time I hear it. Thank you for this.

  • Great work ,Glen! I agree with John… “So Far Away” is just beautiful. You always did have a knack for turning me into a big sap, though! A sincere ‘”Thank you!”

  • Not that I’m a professional music critic, but both Plover & RemoteTreeChildren are in my Top 5 to be posted shortly… :)

Plover is my top album of the year (Even if Blood Pressure Rise from RTC might be my favorite song ever). I have to agree that So Far Away is my fav track. The three of you sound fantastic on the whole record.

That is fantastic, Glen — congratulations. Love the Plover CD as well, and can’t wait to hear the full Works Progress Administration album once it’s out.

I don’t know if it’s true, but I saw on Wikipedia that “Better Off Here” was recorded as part of those sessions and may make the cut. I’ve always loved that song, from way back when you were performing it at Largo in your early-ish solo days. It’d be awesome to see it back in action, and I’d imagine it’d sound great with the WPA crew. (And I’m still holding out hope that “Shorn” will one day resurface, too…hey, can’t blame a guy for trying.)

In any case, happy almost New Year, and here’s hoping for all good things in 2009!

  • Nice – congrats! A beacon of hope for musicians with a similar marketing budget…
