Summer is almost over…

Here I am in San Jose, taking advantage of the free wireless at the airport while I wait to fly out to Las Vegas. I’ll be playing with Sean and Sara Watkins at the MAGIC fashion convention, in the new green/eco pavillion. It should be a bizzare and enjoyable trip. I even trimmed my nose hair in deference to the art of grooming and couture.

We said goodbye to summer vacation by taking a little road trip, starting with Sara W’s wedding in Vista (yay!), then heading up to Placerville for a few days of creekdipping. It’s been a good trip. The girls will be starting school next week, and I’ll be playing a handful of Toad shows before coming home for some recording in September. Then it’s off on the road with Jonatha Brooke. And so on.

What else is there…I dunno. I realize it’s been a while since I’ve posted. I’ve been enjoying ignoring my solo career, I think. Right now I’m most focused on getting the (still sadly nameless) band record out, finishing up the Plover and RemoteTreeChildren projects, and doing some spec scoring work in hopes that I can land a job writing for a TV series. Still, it’s been great to go out and play some solo shows, and I’m hoping to get together some touring with the (still sadly nameless) band in the new year.

So there you have it: an update.

One more show…

It’s my last day in the beautiful South. I play tonight in Atlanta and fly home tomorrow morning at 7am, where I will collapse into the arms of my family. It’s been a good time out here; kind people, enjoyable shows. Had a great time playing the last 3 shows with Antje Duvekot, who deeply impressed me as a writer, performer and person. I also have a new favorite radio station - If you’re out in the ATL area, give a listen to AM 1040, Spice Radio. I’m a sucker for Bollywood music, and they pump it out in great quantity. You can also stream from their website.

In other news, there’s an interview and some live footage here at MindTV.org.

Good times in the South

I’m 3 days in to the tour now, and all is well. Tonight I’m at the Belcourt theater in Nashville. It was the Grand Ole Opry before the Ryman, which pleases me. I like Nashville - might have to come here after Cali falls into the ocean (provided I don’t fall in with it). I’m sitting in Fido, just across the lane, drinking an iced ginger tea and eating a watercress salad with fruit, nuts and goat cheese. Life is not at all bad.

Driving to and from Asheville NC was pretty wonderful. It’s pure lush green hills for hours, and a welcome change from the various urban arteries I’ve been touring on recently. I had a loose, fun show at the Grey Eagle, and an excellent breakfast at the Sunny Point. I love a place that uses local eggs…

Anyway…rather tame entry. Oh well. More later, perhaps.

Busy week…

It’s been a busy week here in Santa Barbara. I finished up a recording session, Laurel went to 4 births in 5 days, and we had evacuated family over for a massive sleepover (12 people total at our house. Also - for those who’ve asked, no houses have burned as of yet - our families and friends are fine). Tomorrow I fly out to Atlanta  and start driving around the South for a few days of excessive sweating and happy music making. See you there if that’s where you’re from. See you later if not.

Be well

Where on earth am I?

Sorry to have been absent. I’ve been recording a new project with John Askew, and spending the moments out of the studio with my family. Not much time for posting. Hi, though. It’s a beautiful day.

Oh yes - I’ll be heading to the South in a week or so. Dates and places are here. Bring a friend. We’ll raise the roof, or maybe just have a lovely chat about things that matter….

Not Political

I seem to be upsetting a few people with political posts. As an olive branch, I offer this hedgehog:

For your perusal

Because it won’t appear in the mainstream news except as another example of Dennis Kucinich being looney and extreme, you might want to spend a minute reading his Articles of Impeachment for GWB and judge for yourself.

Post-Rapture emails for the unsaved…

Truth is still stranger than fiction. My quick recap of an article on Wired Blogs.

Youvebeenleftbehind.com will automatically send your non-saved friends and family a message after you have been bodily transported to Heaven. For only $40 a year, you can be assured of one last goodbye and even the transfer of your no-longer-needed worldly goods. The emails will be triggered when 3 of 5 (2 are likely closet sinners) Christian employees of the company fail to log in for 6 days.

I wonder if I’ll get any emails? “Dude, I told you! Best of luck with Armageddon! Keep away from the Seven Headed Beast! Still love you!” I do hope so. It would help ease the pain.

Shows Cancelled!

The Loyalist Folk Festival in New Brunswick has been canceled last minute, and the Show in Ellsworth Maine had to be canceled as well. Many apologies, and I’ll catch up with you next time around.
